“It’s not “Jewish,” it’s Yiddish”- Beyle Schaechter-Gottesman was a central figure in a vibrant Yiddish world based in the Bronx, New York. Her poetry, songs, and artwork are foundational to the canon of that tradition. The legacy of her creative output spans two centuries, multiple continents, and numerous mediums - always harkening back to her love of Yiddish. Beyle dedicated her life to preserving and spreading Yiddish through a community of scholars, artists, and Yiddish enthusiasts. BEYLE: The Artist and Her Legacy honors her influence on a culture through the eyes of her son, granddaughter, and artistic and linguistic mentees.

The Yiddish Book Center's Wexler Oral History Project is a growing collection of in-depth interviews with people of all ages and backgrounds, whose stories provide a deeper understanding of the Jewish experience. Since 2010, the Project has recorded more than 1,000 video oral history interviews about the legacy and changing nature of Yiddish language and culture.
