Sixth grade student Ellie experiences the hardships of moving to a new country when, in sixth grade, her family moves from Israel to the United States. As she struggles to make friends and learn the language, she meets an unlikely friend in Thuy — her Vietnamese classmate who is also a recent immigrant. Together, they must make inroads with their new surroundings while sustaining this newfound friendship.
